The practical work in OOU Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi’s greenhouse has started. In these lessons, the pupils will become familiar with the process of growing small trees and herbs and will also learn how to take care of them. For the time being, they will be planting various herbs and small trees and will learn the basic processes while guided by the teachers and parents as well. The gained knowledge will help them make the schoolyard greener, an initiative that will be beneficial to many future generations of Pestalozzi.

Children are willing to learn through practice and play and that helps them gain knowledge more easily that lasts longer. During the practical lessons in the greenhouse, they will learn plenty, will make their daily routines more lively and at the same time will have greener schoolyard.

Pupils’ interest is huge, they happily take part in and contribute to the lessons, learn about plants, the environment and their responsibility toward nature. Through these practical lessons, they will develop their environmental awareness, which is of invaluable importance, especially in times of serious climate change. Taking into account all environmental issues we face on a daily basis, such as the polluted air, therefore teaching the children about the protection of nature and its resources is of utmost importance. In addition, the idea is that as individuals, they will contribute toward something that will be beneficial to all pupils as a group and the school as a community. Although invisible at first, this idea is greatly valuable to future active citizens.
