The Foundation Open Society – Macedonia (FOSM) signed Memorandums of Cooperation with the municipalities of Dojran, Prilep, Želino Karpoš and Ohrid, to develop and adopt integrity systems at the local level. The cooperation between FOSM and the five municipalities will contribute to the promotion of good governance at the local level by strengthening the resistance of the local government to corruption and conflict of interest.

As a result of such cooperation, a risk assessment is expected to be conducted in each of the five municipalities; adopt integrity plans; establish integrity working groups; improve the knowledge and capacities of the administrative staff; and adopt a bylaw that regulates the internal mechanisms for reporting cases of corruption and conflict of interest in the municipality.

Additionally, FOSM through cooperation with the civil society organizations Multikultura (Tetovo), Izbor (Strumica), EcHO (Štip), PET Station (Prilep) and the Coalition All for Fair Trials (Skopje), will provide legal assistance to citizens who have recognized and want to report corruption and conflict of interest in these five municipalities.

The Memorandums of Cooperation were signed within the project “Strengthened Integrity Systems for Combating Corruption at the Local Level”, implemented by the Foundation Open Society – Macedonia, within the USAID Civic Engagement Project.
