Although the measure of detention is a commonly used security measure, the authorities in North Macedonia have not conducted a thorough investigation into its use and its impact.
The Coalition “All for Fair Trials”, in the framework of the “Measure of Detention in the Domestic and in the European Practice” project, investigated the application of the measure of detention in the country and made a comparative review of the practice of judicial systems in Europe and the guidelines and recommendations of the European Union, Council of Europe, and the United Nations. The analysis of the data has been done to diagnose the causes and problems related to the application of the detention measure as the strictest security measure, to enable public debate, and to contribute to the proper implementation of the EU and Council of Europe recommendations on the rule of law.
