The training “Education for Social Justice” aims to help teachers understand the importance of respecting diversity among people, to become familiar with the psychosocial basis of creating prejudices and stereotypes, what discrimination means and what is needed to overcome these phenomena. It is organized into three parts – naming, advertising, and building alliances. The training was held from 18 to 24 August 2019, at the Metropol Hotel in Ohrid, attended by 124 teachers from 10 primary schools teaching Macedonian, Turkish, Serbian or Bosnian.
The training is realized within the concept of Education of the Smaller Ethnic Communities implemented by the Foundation Open Society – Macedonia (FOSM) in partnership with the Foundation for Educational and Cultural Initiatives “Step by Step” and in cooperation with the Directorate for Promotion of Community Education. With the start of the school year, FOSM and “Step by Step” will help schools establish “Learning Communities” that will enable collaboration, learning and addressing specific challenges identified by the lessons learned in June and August in order to improve the quality of education.
