In order to provide an inclusive learning environment where diversity is respected and where all children will feel welcome and equally stimulated to succeed, the Foundation Open Society – Macedonia in cooperation with the Foundation for Educational and Cultural Initiatives “Step by Step” and the Center Association for educational support “Dendo Vas”, and with financial support from the European Union, in 2019 began to implement the project “Stay at School: Action for Inclusion of Roma in Primary Education” aimed at providing equal access to education for Roma children, but and motivate them to attend classes regularly.

The project ends in October 2022 and through it only this school year 596 scholarships were provided for Roma students.

To the questions related to this topic in the Morning briefing on Slobodna TV, the project manager Suncica Kostovska said:

– During this school year, we provided scholarships to 596 children from first to fourth grade who study in 73 schools in 31 municipalities across the country. We have also been awarding scholarships for the past two years. In the first year, we supported only first graders, and 282 children were supported. The second year we had new competition. So far in these three school years, we have awarded 1,516 scholarships, so it is specific that these scholarships are for Roma students who come from families receiving social assistance.

In the end, Kostovska emphasized that the project gives maximum results and this support is of particular importance.
