The Foundation Open Society – Macedonia in the period 16 to 19 December 2019, in hotel “Sirius”, in Strumica held a seminar on legal empowerment of employees in regional offices of the Ministry of Justice.

In addition to the employees in the regional offices of the Ministry of Justice, the seminar was also attended by representatives of the Coalition MARGINS, Romano Chachipe, Faculty of Law “Iustinianus Primus”, Skopje, EHO Educational – Humanitarian Organization – Štip, Macedonian Young Lawyers Association, as well as representatives of the Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Labor and Social Policy, the State Administrative Inspectorate, and experts from the Council of Europe.

Through the theoretical and interactive workshops of the seminar, the employees in the regional offices have acquired adequate knowledge of the concept of legal empowerment as well as of forms of access to community justice – providing legal, paralegal and free legal aid, such as the Legal Clinic. At the same time, the identified challenges arising from the application of the Law on Free Legal Aid were identified, such as: archiving and keeping a record of the actual acts adopted by the regional offices, social reform and new social protection rights, presentation of process tools for requests for free legal aid.

The seminar is part of the priority Access to Justice under the fourth National Open Government Partnership Action Plan 2018-2020, in which the Ministry of Justice is the reference institution.

The event program is designed in collaboration with representatives of the Ministry of Justice and the Council of Europe.
