The Foundation Open Society – Macedonia held a Seminar for Legal Empowerment for the employees of the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy and the Social Work Centers in the period from 8 to 11 July 2019 in Ohrid. The seminar was attended by 8 representatives from the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy and 13 representatives from the Social Work Centers, as well as representatives from the civil society organizations: EHO Educational – Humanitarian Organization, Glasen Tekstilec, Legal Clinic for Vulnerable Groups, Romano Chichipe, HERA, HOPS, Izbor, Reaktor, ASE Association for Emancipation , Solidarity and Equality of Women and Youth Cultural Center – Bitola, which in partnership with FOSM work on the concept of legal strengthening.
The purpose of the seminar was for the employees from the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy and the Center for Social Work to acquire adequate knowledge of what the concept of legal empowerment and the need for its institutionalization are. This seminar is a part of the priority Access to Justice within the Fourth National Action Plan for Open Government Partnership 2018-2020, in which the reference institution is the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy.
Participants through theoretical and interactive sessions had the opportunity to get acquainted with the concept of legal strengthening, the models of legal and paralegal services provided in the community, the possibilities for financing the services, the importance of data collection, strategic planning and other topics relevant to the concept of legal empowerment.
The seminar program was developed in cooperation with representatives of the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy, the Ministry of Justice and civil society organizations that in the past years were participants in the International Course for Legal Strengthening in Budapest, and were adjustment of the program from the International Course for Legal Strengthening of the Macedonian context.
