A pandemic for many informally employed workers means facing the dilemma of “dying of hunger or dying from the virus” on a daily basis. Because informal workers are often not registered and low-skilled, lack basic care, including social security, have poor access to health care, and have no alternative source of income in the event of illness or job loss, the pandemic has brought huge and serious consequences.
