On 8 February 2022, the Executive Director of the Foundation Open Society – Macedonia (FOSM) Fani Karanfilova-Panovska and the Mayor of Valandovo, Pero Kostadinov, signed a Memorandum of Cooperation which committed to promoting good governance by strengthening the resistance of the local government concerning conflict of interest, and with the introduction of a system of integrity in the municipality.

 

At the meeting, Executive Director Karanfilova-Panovska emphasized the commitment of FOSM to support local authorities that are committed to a consistent application of the principles of transparency, accountability and responsibility, as a prerequisite for an open and democratic society. She welcomed the will of the Municipality of Valandovo to cooperate with civil society and to work continuously to improve integrity policies.

Mayor Kostadinov pointed out that the municipality of Valandovo will continue to work on developing new tools and procedures that strengthen municipal transparency and create a system that is intolerant of corruption, creates mutual trust in the community and creates a basis for development.

The Memorandum of Cooperation was concluded within the project “Strengthened Integrity Systems for Combating Corruption at the Local Level”, implemented by the Foundation Open Society – Macedonia, and is part of the USAID Civic Engagement Project.
