Having in mind the joint efforts for the rule of law and good governance, the Executive Director of the Foundation Open Society – Macedonia Fani Karanfilova-Panovska and the Mayor of Berovo, Zvonko Pekevski, held a meeting on 18 January 2022 at which they signed a Memorandum of Cooperation.

The cooperation between the Municipality of Berovo and the Foundation aims to contribute to the promotion of good governance at the local level by strengthening the resistance of the local government to corruption and conflict of interest, and by introducing a system of integrity in the municipality.

As a result of such cooperation, a risk assessment of corruption and conflict of interest in the municipality of Berovo is expected to be conducted; to adopt an integrity plan; to improve the knowledge of integrity and the capacities of administrative officers to act in cases of corruption and conflict of interest; to adopt a bylaw that regulates the internal mechanisms for reporting cases of corruption and conflict of interest in the municipality.

The Memorandum of Cooperation was concluded within the project “Strengthened Integrity Systems for Combating Corruption at the Local Level”, implemented by the Foundation Open Society – Macedonia, and is part of the USAID Civic Engagement Project.
