From 15 to 19 October 2019 in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Academy for Art Actions was held. It was organized by the Open Society Foundations, the US Center for Artistic Activism and the Center for Contemporary Arts in Skopje.

The academy was attended by artists, civic activists and journalists from the Western Balkans. The participants of the Academy had an exceptional opportunity through a series of lectures and practical work under the mentorship of trainers from the USA and the Republic of North Macedonia to learn and get acquainted with the practices of artistic activism as well as to carry out a joint action focused on combating corruption and how to speak publicly about it.

As part of the action “NE DAJ MITO NE DAJ BEKRIJO” held on 18 October at two locations in the center of Sarajevo, participants created a participatory spatial installation that invites and encourages citizens to talk about corruption in their country. Through citizen testimonies recorded as a short story, participants tried to encourage citizens to take an active stand on this problem that we all face in the Western Balkans.

The Academy for Art Action is being held as part of a two-year initiative implemented in the Western Balkans and West Africa, aimed at transferring knowledge and encouraging artists, activists and journalists to be more effective in their efforts to influence people engagement in corruption issues and create opportunities for collaboration on different topics and across different geographical areas.
